December 21, 2024 marked the first World Meditation Day as resolved by the United Nations General Assembly.

By Sister Jenna, “The season of lights brings many beautiful gifts, both obvious and subtle. On December 6, the UN General Assembly gave the world the “gift of meditation” by adopting a resolution declaring December 21, the Winter Solstice, as World Meditation Day.

“Meditation is rooted in ancient practices and is an effective tool to achieve inner transformation and peace in modern day. It is aimed at comprehensive human wellbeing, including mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual dimensions. It prepares human beings to cope with several modern-day issues such as heightened anxiety and stress and brings about harmony between mind and body, humans and nature.” (UN Resolution)

As we approach 2025, the Brahma Kumaris at the UN encourage everyone to strengthen their own reflective practice of meditation. At this moment of time, meditation is essential for our sanity, safety, and inner strength. Let us enter the new year by deepening our individual and collective practices, by filling our hearts with selfless love, our conscience with timeless wisdom, and our world with peace, goodwill, and nonviolence.”
